Miracle MonitorTV
Tune into television while you work on your computer.

Like many other monitors, the Miracle MonitorTV ($350 street), from Miracle Business, comes with attached stereo speakers, front-panel controls for an on-screen display, and a tilt-and-swivel base. But it also comes with a remote control, so you can change channels--because the monitor contains a television tuner.

The 0.27-mm dot pitch (0.23-mm horizontal dot pitch) display is rated for up to SXGA (1,280-by-1,024) resolution and for a 16-inch viewable area. The back panel has a standard 15-pin VGA connector as well as inputs for antenna or cable signals and S-Video. It also has input and output connectors for stereo sound and composite video. ...... The 90-channel tuner can scan and find all the available signals, and during testing, it was able to pull in broadcast stations even in a fringe reception area.

Using the MonitorTV's remote control you can quickly switch back and forth between the computer display and the television image; the sound defaults to the television programming, so you can listen to a broadcast while you work. And you can also switch to the AV sound signal to hear what's coming from your sound card.

We tested the display using DisplayMate software from DisplayMate Technologies at XGA (1,024-by-768) resolution. The MonitorTV showed very good convergence and a helpful assortment of effective screen-geometry adjustments. Slight moiré patterns appeared on a few of the test screens, but we were able to reduce these effects somewhat using the configuration controls. ...... if you need--or want--a television on your desktop along with your monitor and don't have room for both, this device provides a solution in a single, affordable unit.
